ALD’s Laser Help Network Improves Patient Outcomes
A longtime pediatric dentist, Dr. Nick A. Prater provides laser soft and hard tissue surgery, including tongue-tie and lip procedures. Dr. Nick A. Prater is a member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD), a professional organization that offers dental laser education to dental surgeons as well as members of the public.
ALD has a number of member programs to benefit practicing dentists. One of them is the Laser Help Network. This network comprises ALD members who come together to share knowledge on laser treatment techniques. Members give their time and expertise generously to others, receiving phone calls and replying to emails from dentists who would like assistance in clinical practice. This access has helped many dentists treat patients with complex conditions. An example is Dr. Kathleen Divito, who needed assistance treating a patient who had post-op mental nerve neuropathy.
When the patient came to Dr. Divito, she immediately reached out to Dr. Gerry Ross, an expert on post-op mental neuropathy, through the Laser Help Network. Dr. Ross was available on call. He guided her on the specific PBM protocols to follow, reassured her, and gave her his email address where she could send follow-up questions. Dr. Divito treated the patient following the PBM techniques Dr. Ross had advised. She followed this up with additional treatments and in a few days, the patient experienced relief.
